Wall art

Hey guys,

It has been a real busy week around here, and I figured I would catchup and writings something this weekend, but it was also a busy weekend and here was are Monday AGAIN. This will be a quick post, but a great one.

If you following my interior design style, you know I am a neutral wall person with art/decor/furniture as statements factors. I love this for so many reasons, if you stay neutral with your walls you wont get sick of it in a few months. I change my personal house around just about every 4-6 months (depends on how busy I find myself). If I had crazy colors I swear I would be painting my house quarterly (sad I know lol). Rather than repaint, I just redecorate and TRUST ME my house looks new all over again, people always say "you must spend soooo much money of new decor each time you change your house up", and the truth is I really don't. I just change 1 wall, or take things that I had in my bedroom, and bring them into other areas in my home. As humans when we expect something to look the same, and they end up looking a little different we thing EVERYTHING is different.

With all that said, my design remix tip...
1. Buy pieces that you can transition from one room in your home into another room in your home when you are sick of its current place.
     example: do not buy artwork for your bathroom with pictures that hint its a bathroom (words or pictures of tubs, toilets, showers). Chances are your guests know they are in your bathroom already, so they do not need to be reminded lol. Instead by basic picture or shelve or whatever you would like, and when buying it think "can I use this in my bedroom or entryway if I want to switch in 6 months?". If answer is yes, BUY it, if answer is NO, reconsider.

2. If you are in love with a patter or color this season, buy it the form of decor rather than spending the money, and time to paint your walls that color or patter. Its so much easier and cheaper to change towels with grey and white chevron print than it is your walls :0 ) (thank me later).

Here is a picture of a white wall with art right on it. Its a small wall in an entryway, so your entryway has the wow factor, while its in a small area, when you are over the look its nothing it paint it over real quick.

One of my favorite projects, The Stetson Mansion in Deland, FL

All my projects have a special place in my heart, but this one was extra special. So a few years back, I was asked by the wonderful owners of The Stetson Mansion to be the designer for the schoolhouse. I was so excited. I was a fairly new designer at the time, and was a little scared, but I was so ready to handle it. This little bungalow had so much going for it but just needed so love. Enjoy the pictures.

Dealing with clients who get stressed quickly

Hello fabulous decor lovers,

I wanted to take sometime and post about dealing with clients that get stressed quick, but I quickly realized it stressed me out thinking about it, Ill post that another day, because that will be a longer post.

So I changed my direction and wanted to show you a great added touch to a small restaurant that I am doing. I am not one t do different color accent walls, I feel like that was so 2005. So I take the "accent wall" approach to a different level. Thats what being a creative designer is all about. I alway push the limits, and in most cases push my clients to their limits creatively. And for a small period (until they start to see the change) they are not very happy with me, and really I am ok with that. They hire me to do the job perfectly and creative a "wow factor" and I defiantly take my job seriously. In just about all my previous projects my clients have fell in love with the area and if they didn't like it at first within a week they love it, and that being a few things 1) they have family and friends over and their friends love it, or after sometime the shock wheres off.

But anyway, as I often digress. I used 3D raised panels that I had custom made for my client. They come in a off white color and I had the painter (Special Ops Painting by Richard Brower). Really the painter you have handle them makes all the difference. TRUST ME. The panels are great, and cost my client an arm and a leg, if I didn't have the BEST in the business handle them, they would have looked like garbage.

The painter, had a black undertone, with iridescent brown, silver, and so many other great colors. Hope you guys enjoy the pictures or before and after. Keep in mind the whole space will be done in about a month, but is not complete at the moment. Feel free to leave your thought!

My first post (this should be fun)

Hello fabulous decor lovers,

So yes, yes, yes this us my FIRST blog, I know, I know!!!! But I promise to make this fun. I want to be different from other decor and interior design/decor blogs. I want to talk about everything from my love of everything interior design and decor, how to balance building a small business and making sure your home still runs "normal",  all the way to some tips on dealing with clients who want to take your job as "designer", when they hired you to handle that (yes, this does really happen), 

But before I get into all that stuff I want to give you a little background on me.....

My name is Shastine, I own My Distinctive Design based out of, the amazing, Windermere, FL (short drive from downtown Orlando). Before anything in this world I am a child of God, I am a mother, daughter and a sister. And I am so blessed to be everyone of those. I love The Lord and I am so blessed to even see another day. I love everything about family, even the little ups and down we deal with, with one another. I have always loved everything about interior decorating. I was 10 redecorating my room, and since my mother did not allow me to redecorate, I would redecorate my grandparents home. Bless them for not going crazy downstairs while I rearrange their whole upstairs. I was born in Fall River, MA (about an hour from Boston), and moved to Orlando, FL in 2001. GOOOOOOO PATRIOTS!! I am so proud to be Portuguese. You will see that my design concept is different, and I credit my culture for that. I also enjoy traveling, I love to experience different cultures and see how different we, as Americans really are. 

I think that really gives you a little idea of ME... Although you will most defiantly see a lot more of what I am in my blog. I think this is a good start, I would hate to be a bore. 

I really hope you enjoy my cool posts, pictures, ideas, and everything else I share. I would love feedback on the blog, just keep it clean!
